Types of Attic Insulation
Insulation helps regulate the temperature of your home, reducing energy costs while providing a more comfortable indoor living environment. It prevents hot air from entering in the summer and cold air from escaping in winter. Effective insulation also reduces noise, creating a more peaceful living environment.
All Out Insulation is available in a variety of types and thicknesses, each with its own R-value rating. The higher the R-value, the more efficient the insulation is. The Department of Energy recommends a minimum R-value of R-30 in most homes, although those in very cold climates may require a higher R-value to be more energy-efficient.
Fiberglass batt insulation is the most popular type of attic insulation. It comes in rolls that are precut to fit between attic joists and rafters. It is often topped with an air and vapor barrier to help prevent condensation, a common problem in attics.
All Out Insulation’s Guide to Affordable and Effective Attic Insulation
Loose-fill or blown-in insulation is installed using special equipment that blows particles of fiberglass, cellulose (made from recycled paper products), or mineral wool into attic spaces to fill gaps and cover surfaces evenly. It provides a greater R-value per inch than batt insulation, and it is resistant to pests, moisture, and mold.
Spray foam is a two-part liquid that expands into a solid, insulating layer upon curing. It is an excellent choice for attics with many small nooks and crannies, as it can seal the space effectively and has a high R-value per inch. It does not, however, provide much structural support. It also requires professional installation because the chemicals used during the process are toxic and can cause a range of symptoms if they come into contact with skin.
