Seattle Civil Rights Attorney

Seattle civil rights attorney Jesse Westerberg has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America in his practice area since 2013, and a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers. A frequent presenter and published author on employment, civil rights and fair housing issues, Jesse is a past President of the Washington Employment Lawyers Association and currently serves as Chair of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington.

Vivian Caver has been active in Seattle civil rights advocacy for over 50 years. Her work has included Urban League desegregation campaigns, open housing struggles, and serving as a member of the Seattle Human Rights Department.

Pedro Acevez was part of the first contingent of Chicano students to enroll at UW and became a leader in the campus and community including helping to establish El Centro de la Raza. He continues to be an activist in immigrant rights and workers’ rights.

Bettylou Valentine was an NAACP activist before joining CORE in the early 1960s and helped organize campaigns against employment discrimination in grocery stories and downtown department stores, against housing discrimination, and against police harassment of African Americans.

Fred Simmons was raised in St. Louis and apprenticed as an electrician. He helped desegregate the Seattle building trades unions and worked on anti-discrimination organizing in Oakland, Denver and Southwest Seattle. He is a founder of LELO (Northwest Labor and Employment Law Office) and a long time worker-activist. He is also a leader in IBEW local 46.
